Mr.
Rundgren put on a hell of a show last night at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland. He opened for himself with
Utopia, joined by
Kasim Sultan,
Roger Powell, both former members, as well as
Prairie Prince from
The Tubes in place of Utopia drummer
Willie Wilcox. Utopia blazed through an energetic set of their well-crafted progressive pop gems. After a short break, Todd and band, including the former, plus
the Cars' keyboardist
Greg Hawkes, and a sax player and a guitarist both of whom i am not familiar, played the entire 1973 Rundgren album
A Wizard, A True Star, and it was quite a multimedia experience with costumes, like the space suit pictured above, theatricality, and great lights, dry ice "smoke" and projected images.
Thanks to my long-time amigo Bob for inviting me, and to his sis Lisa and our friend Nick for being such wonderful company with which to share this spectacular event.
Long Live Todd!!!
(Rundgren....and me, too)
